Couldn't Dorothy have afforded her own place? In those days, living with roommates was for college students.

It pissed me off that she just up and left Sophia. Like I’d take my mom with me if I moved with my husband and she lived with me?

I remember watching this at the Midnight Sun in San Francisco when it first aired, and there was not a dry eye in the house. A bunch of queens tearing up and sobbing like the four queens here.

Sophia died a year earlier than Dorothy while Blanche died a year later. Sophia passed away in the year 2008 Dorothy in 2009 Blanche in 2010.

I always had this feeling that The Golden Girls was way more popular than Cheers, even Cheers lasted longer on network tv.

"What can you say after seven years of fights, laughter, secrets, cheesecake?" Sums the series up perfectly.

Does she just leave her mom behind like that? Seems kind of cold, considering she's so old. I could never leave my mom like that. I would bring her to live with me.

This was by far the best, most well-written, and memorable tv series to date! Even up until the very end when the talented writers of the show ended The Golden Girls with a very great story and truly showcased how close they all were. My only wish regarding this wonderful show, is that it ended way too soon! They always sent powerful messages and brought up serious topics in such a classy, yet humorous way that no other show has ever been able to compare to! This really does go to show that blood doesn't make you family; these girls were closer than most blood related families are. This final scene really expressed the entire show... you can tell the actresses are truly sad, not just their characters.... but even though this was such an emotional scene, the writers and actresses were able to include humor in it as well! What I think makes watching this final episode much more emotional, is that Betty is the only one still alive! Never forget The Golden Girls and all they stood for! 💞
Jeff Thompson (2 years ago)
see how Bea looks at the camera when she leaves for the last time. I think the emotions for the actors were very real

i have a headache and by nose burns from crying so hard watching this. they're all gone but betty.. this will always be my favorite show. R.I.P angels. 😿💔
Lovely, memorable, touching - but Sophia is Dorothy's mother, and Dorothy is acting like they'll never see each other again.
Peter Masefield (3 months ago)
I always thought the same thing
Kee Leichtle (2 years ago)
It shouldn't have ended this way. It should've ended with a scene after this scene where Dorothy visits and all four have cheesecake together promising no matter what, they'll always be in each other's lives.

Sitcoms usually end in sadder endings to capture the essence of reality

Every time I watch this I bawl my eyes out! This is very emotional for me. How could you not cry watching this? I can't help it I always do. The Golden Girls were one of the best! To this day I still watch every episode on DVD! I loved them all in the past and I still love them today. They all touched my heart in so many different ways. They are all loved and missed dearly😭 I am so glad and thankful we still have one Golden Girl left who is Betty White. God Bless the Golden Girls!

The things that gets me teary eyed every time here is after Bea leaves; Rue, Estelle and Betty look around with smiles on their faces expecting Bea to pop into the room from another door with another quick hug, but then their faces fall as they realise that they hugged her for the last time and that she isn't coming back and the show really has come to it's end.

But she left her Mom there and said Goodbye forever to her. Lol. She should have taken her with her. Guess that's how the script had to be for Rose to keep her place there. I've put a lot of thought into this huh. Lol its one of my favorite shows.
Ann Xiety (3 years ago)
+splender777 Sophia didn't want to go with her, she wanted to stay with her "girls" Blanche and Rose.

This is such a wonderful tribute to Bea Arthur. The music was elegant and relevant and could not have fit the scene more perfectly. I can't help but cry when I watch this. I have never seen a more beautiful exit speech on any other show, ever. I know Bea probably felt the real emotion she was portraying (the Golden Girls was an iconic show and it must have been hard to say goodbye to it). I miss them all.
tonywrestles2 (7 years ago)
@BellaFarr Estelle Getty. The ironic thing is that she was the youngest of the four.
Rhianna Barr-Beaumont (1 year ago)
tonywrestles2 no. Rue was. Betty is the oldest (1922) then Bea (1922) then Estelle (1923) then Rue (1934)

with the video and music. it made me cry ;[
tony frank De' S (7 years ago)
Why did Youtube remove all the videos of the episodes..so mean of them..now we only have these short snippet videos..
StreathamG (8 years ago)
The music does kinda get in the way. The performances were so powerful ,as was the poignancy of the moment, that I feel there was no need to try to enhance it with a sentimental backing track in a deliberate attempt to provoke peoples' deep feelings about these beautiful women - especially Dorothy - Bea Arthur. That said; any video featuring these women is worth watching and thanking the person who took the time to upload it. GG fan from London xx.

What a wonderful piece of music to accompany what is still one of the most poignant scenes I've ever seen on TV. I watch this like so many others with tears in my eyes. It doesn't even seem they are acting such is the palpable sense of loss here. We won't see the likes of this I don't think ever again. God I wish I could turn back time and bring these 4 remarkable ladies back together again. At least we've still got Betty. RIP Bea, Estelle, Rue. You're all missed very much.
