Posted by Admin on March - 26 - 2011 0 Comment

A member of parliament has raised concern that the overall liability for payment protection insurance claims and its mis-selling could reach J4 billion.

Jonathan Evans estimates that the complete bill of mis sold ppi could be in the billions range, with over the years the significant figures becoming colossal.

The MP said: “I’ve seen indications that in due course the overall liability in relation to PPI is likely to be not in the hundreds of millions but the billions [of pounds]. I Read more…

A very big part of becoming a responsible member of society is doing things with your future and mind. This means sending all of your goals around planning for your future. Parents with children should instill these ideals into their kids minds as early as possible so that when they grow up they will understand the importance of putting money aside for a rainy day. We will not always be young and able to work. There will come a time when we will become too sick or too tired to bring in an income. When that happens if we have not created some sort of a retirement fund for ourselves we will literally be left out in the cold. This is why every goal and every dream you have should also surround figuring out what you will do when you become aged and I’m able to earn money. Read more…

IRS Audits 80% More Rich Taxpayers

Posted by Patrick Howard on March - 24 - 2011 0 Comment

Robert Frank at the WSJ looked at the latest audit statistics in the IRS Data Book and discovered that the IRS audited more than 18% of returns with income of at least $10 million. This is an increase of 80% from 2009, when only 10% were audited. Audit rates increased for other income groups as well, though most sharply for the higher brackets.

If you look at the statistics, it’s actually quite fascinating. Every income range in the Data Book showed an increase in audits, though the $10mm or more crowd saw the greatest jump. H

Your Take: Would You Use Local Currency?

Posted by Patrick Howard on March - 20 - 2011 0 Comment

Local currency isn’t a particularly new idea but it’s one that seems to be gathering a bit of steam lately as “Main Street” revolts against the enormous financial machine of Wall Street. BerkShares is the most famous of the local currencies, an alternate currency used in the Berkshire region of Massachusetts, but they exist in a lot of different areas. The main motivation behind local currency isn’t that it’s an alternative to the mainstream, it’s that it supports the local economy. I stumbled onto the idea of local currency because I saw a funded Kickstarter program called BNotes, for a local Baltimore currency. With BNotes, you can buy $11 in BNotes for $10 with the hope that local merchants are signed on to use it.

The only concern I’d have is with the legality of local currencies, which I haven’t researched. It would be for b

3 Ways to Boost Your Social Security Benefits

Posted by Patrick Howard on March - 15 - 2011 0 Comment

As many Americans know, you can retire and start collecting Social Security benefits anytime from age 62 to 70. Most people start collecting right away at age 62.

But what many people dont know is that you can raise your benefit substantially with one of the following three options:

1.  Wait until you are older to claim your benefit.

If you wait, you can raise your monthly benefit by more than 75 percent. For example, if you’d get $1,000 a month in Social Security at age 62, you’d get at least $1,333 at age 66, and $1,760 at age 70.

At age 62, you get your minimum. At 66, you get one third more and at age 70, three quarters more.

Remember, retiring and claiming are not the same thing. If y Read more…

Yields mixed as investors weigh stocks and crude oil

Posted by Charles Hughes on March - 1 - 2011 0 Comment

Treasuries best performance since the last day of January came in the middle of the North American night as investors in Asia sold stocks and reached for the safe haven of government debt. As events unfolded in early morning Manhattan signs of economic strength pared gains for safe haven investments as investors once again rotate cautiously from bonds to stocks.

Eurodollar futures – The March 10-year note future reached 120-23 overnight sending yields to the lowest since January 31. In Asia equity prices were sinking in response to a sharp drop in U.S. equity values on Tuesday as crude oil soared and as protests turned uglier in the Middle East. A
